Of Farms and Fables combines the efforts of professional and non-professional artists by engaging artists in farm work and farm workers in storytelling and acting. The result will be an original performance in October of 2011 which will engage performers and audience in dialogue about local agriculture, farming, and the future of small family farms in Maine.

Info Gathering, A Little $, Press, Artists - we're getting there!

We haven't updated this blog in awhile, but Of Farms and Fables has been far from dormant. In December, Advisory Board members visited Jordan's Farm on a frigid day in the midst of holiday madness and tasted purple spinach still in the ground. Later that same day, we were granted $10,000 from the Ella Lyman Cabot Trust to launch our activities this summer. Hooray!

In January, we hosted an Informational Gathering at the home of Rebecca Millett. This was well attended, and despite the tardy arrival of our wine supply, we all saw some new faces and conversed about local agriculture. Some of the farmers involved in the project described their work, our Advisory Board members introduced themselves, and a general outline of the project was provided. We received some wonderful press in support of this event; a few selections include:

Finally, we have been fortunate to interview a number of qualified, passionate, local, and non-local artists for positions available on our artistic team. I look forward to posting the results of this process here, and on our website, soon.
