Of Farms and Fables combines the efforts of professional and non-professional artists by engaging artists in farm work and farm workers in storytelling and acting. The result will be an original performance in October of 2011 which will engage performers and audience in dialogue about local agriculture, farming, and the future of small family farms in Maine.

We're rolling up our sleeves!

With the early arrival of warm weather, a new growing season is well underway for Maine farms. OFAF artists Jennie and Claire recently visited Kay-Ben Farm in Gorham, where Becky and Eddie are having trouble keeping up with the demand for their compost, and Broadturn Farm, where John and Flora were busy laying irrigation lines for the summer flowers. As our farmers tumble into full-swing, our artists are making final preparations as well. A first “team meeting” was conducted last week via Skype (Cory is still in Chicago), and on May 30, the OFAF Work Exchange will officially begin with the first in-person Artistic Team Meeting. Our artists will begin working on the farms on the morning of June 1, and our first workshop for participating farmers will be held on Thursday, June 3. After nearly two years of planning and preparation, Of Farms and Fables is about to hit the ground running (and digging, and weeding, and . . .) !
